The Pedal Heaven RT is to go professional for the 2016 season. A new line up of pro riders allows the team to step up a level to compete against bigger teams.
Last season saw the team top the amateur rankings by a country mile, achieving an outstanding tally of 5357 points, a staggering 838 points clear of its closest rival. This is even more impressive when you consider that it outperformed teams with much higher levels of funding by a significant margin.
Team owner Craig Peter says, “I think our performance over the season surprised a lot of people. It’s one thing to have a great team showing in a single race. The trick is to turn in good performances week after week. I think we managed to punch so far above our weight because of hard work, good planning and making the right decisions at the right time. Now we think the time is right to take it to the next level and our new sponsor Pierian provides us with the financial support that lets us go pro.”
Going professional requires the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale, commonly called the “International Cycling Union”) the world’s governing body in the sport of bicycle racing, to grant a licence.
The UCI issues racing licenses to riders and manages the classification of races and the points ranking system in various cycling disciplines including mountain biking, road and track cycling, for both men and women, amateur and professional. It also oversees the World Championships.
